Norwich church celebrates 75th anniversary
A grand ceremony has been held to mark the 75th anniversary of St Catherine’s Church in Mile Cross, one of the most historic churches in Norwich.
St Catherine’s
held its first service on November 12, 1936, and marked this anniversary with the choir of
Fitzwilliam College
at Evensong on
November 12
.
The Grade II listed church’s big claim to fame was that its foundation stone was laid by a very special guest,
Queen Mary
on Thursday, February 2, 1935.
On Saturday, the
Lord Mayor of Norwich Jenny Lay
was among the special guests to join
Rev Paul Mackay
and a crowd of about 170 people to mark 75 years since the first service.
