Christian community café to open in Norwich

Eleanor Laming with Envoy KerrThe Salvation Army is to start a community café in Thorpe St Andrew in Norwich as a place for local residents to link up and enjoy refreshments.

The café will be open every Thursday morning from May 19 between 10am – 12noon in the Morse Pavilion, Laundry Lane, Norwich, NR7 0XQ and will serve hot and cold drinks and light refreshments.

The café will be led by Eleanor Laming with support from volunteers from The Salvation Army’s Dussindale corps, which she attends.

Mrs Laming said: “The idea is for us to set up now as a pilot and run over the summer holidays to see how it goes. The area has quite a few older people living there as well as many young families using the recreation ground. We think that they will appreciate having facilities like these.”

The Community Café is the latest offering from Dussindale church, The Salvation Army’s third and newest fellowship in Norwich which opened in November 2008. Led by Envoy Kerry Giles and holding its Sunday meetings in Dussindale Primary School, the corps also runs a youth group on Wednesdays and a very popular children’s club on Saturdays.

Kerry Giles“It is a great privilege for us to serve our local community in these different ways,” says Envoy Kerry, who sees the opening up of opportunities for the corps’ work as an answer to prayer. “We thank God for it all; for the chance to be based in the School, the availability of funds for the ministry to start and the lives being impacted now through it. It’s all down to Him.”

Dussindale Salvation Army is keen to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer their help at the Community Café or the Children’s Club. Please call Eleanor on 01603 439101 or Kerry on 07900 904 128 or email eleandgreg@eleandgreg.plus.com
