Pregnancy loss charity holds remembrance service

The loss of a baby is like no other bereavement. There are no memories to treasure, only lost hopes and dreams. TimeNorfolk and Norwich Cathedral are holding a service on October 17 to remember little ones lost too soon.

Many men and women who have experienced this kind of loss feel they haven't had the opportunity to say goodbye, so TimeNorfolk, the pregnancy loss charity, and Norwich Cathedral have come together to provide the Doorway of Hope, an annual remembrance service to remember little ones lost too soon.

“We have held this service at Norwich Cathedral for the past four years and we know it has been helpful to many bereaved parents who welcome this time to remember their lost babies. It’s a beautiful service of reflection and hope for anyone who has lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or termination or during the early months of life,” said Lesley Bradfield, director of TimeNorfolk.

The service will consist of readings, hymns, music from The Mulbarton Choir and previous clients who will be sharing their stories of baby loss. There will be a book of remembrance and lighting of candles during the service.

The Revd Canon Andy Bryant, Canon for Mission and Pastoral Care, said: “Working with TimeNorfolk, through this service the Cathedral is able to offer a safe and supportive space where those who have been bereaved by the loss of a baby can come together to light candles, say prayers and remember. This service is always a very special and moving occasion.”

The Doorway of Hope is for everyone who has been touched by pregnancy and baby loss, however long ago.

Lesley added “We have people attending who are recently bereaved and those who suffered a loss many years ago. Everyone is welcome.”

Do you appreciate our service and stories?

The Network Norwich & Norfolk website has been published for over 13 years now and we have an established team of professional journalists covering the activities, organisations and churches which make up the county’s Christian community. Our whole purpose is to support that community by daily providing accurate, unbiased stories and features.

To pay for that service, we rely on our partner organisations, advertisers and readers to, in turn, support us financially. We want to keep the website free for everyone to access and continue to be able to pay for writers to produce the content you can enjoy every day.

We would like to ask you to consider supporting our work and suggest you might want to make a small regular donation of just £1 a week and become one of our 100 Friends, or a larger one-off or annual amount.

Because we are part of a registered charity we can reclaim Gift Aid on your donations if you are a tax-payer.
