Norwich day of spiritual enrichment is offered
The Norwich Christian Meditation Centre (NCMC) is hosting Kohenet Rachel Rose Reid for a day of spiritual enrichment on Saturday March 30 preceded by an evening of storytelling and song on Friday March 29 at St Luke’s.
Kohenet is a recent ordination, established by the Kohenet institute, to reclaim and renew knowledge and practice of Jewish women’s spiritual leadership, which stretches from antiquity to the present day.
In addition to being a Kohenet, Rachel is a professional storyteller, who has written and performed for BBC Radio 3, London Symphony Orchestra, and Billy Bragg amongst many more!
Howard Green from the NCMC said: “We are so excited that Rachel is sharing both of her worlds with us over the course of our weekend together.
“On Friday evening she will be ushering in Shabbat (the Sabbath) for us with stories and songs from the Jewish tradition and beyond. There will be a pay bar for drinks.
“On Saturday morning, Rachel will guide attendees in practices of Hebrew chant, blessing and silent meditation, all of which are based on Hebrew liturgy and sacred texts. Jesus would have very likely absorbed these texts into his being from childhood, since many of these words date back to the times of the Temple. We are invited to meet these ancient words with our own faith and personal interpretation.
“On Saturday afternoon, there will be the opportunity to delve into the presence of the Feminine Divine found in the Hebrew Bible, exploring feminine archetypes that are used to express God’s presence and great works. Since we are all made in the image of God, this is powerful and nourishing for men, as well as women, to explore,” said Howard.
Rachel said: “I have led the most joyful and deep prayer circles and learning sessions at Greenbelt Festival, and I am happy to bring my work into a Christian setting once more! I am looking forward to sharing the wisdom of my ancestors with you and hope it will serve your own devotional practices, and enrich your relationship with the Divine.”
