Eaton church ends 700th anniversary in thanksgiving
On January 27 St Andrew’s Church in Eaton will mark the end of its 700th anniversary ‘Year of Celebration’ with a Service of Thanksgiving, held jointly with Christ Church, Eaton.
Throughout 2018 St Andrew’s Church in the village of Eaton in South Norwich has been enjoying a Year of Celebration to mark two anniversaries in the parish.
The Year of Celebration was held in honour of the first known priest of the church Geoffrey de Boton beginning his ministry in Eaton in 1318, 700 years ago. It was also the 25th anniversary of the opening of its modern church building, an extension to the thatched medieval church.
Throughout the year these milestones were celebrated with exhibitions, music, food, a holiday club and much more.
On Sunday, January 27 at 10am a Thanksgiving Service will be held to bring the Year of Celebration to an end. The service will be held jointly with Christ Church, Eaton.
The neighbouring Christ Church will also be holding a celebration of its own with its annual Candlemas service on Sunday, February 3 at 10am. Candlemas marks the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, and takes place, traditionally, 40 days after Christmas. The service will involve candles being blessed, the choir and a procession.
All are welcome at both services.
