Invite to watch England semi-final at Norwich church

A Norwich church was inviting people to sing the praises of the England football team during their momentous World Cup semi-final against Croatia last night on a big screen at The Sanctuary Coffee Stop on Grove Walk in the city.

Based in St Alban’s church, part of the St Thomas Norwich group, the café and the church’s Sports Factory project, is inviting people to join them from 6pm to enjoy bacon sarnies and beer and cheer on England.

Will Bacon, youth and sports pastor at St Thomas, said they were hoping for a big crowd after showing previous World Cup matches.

He told the EDP: “We’re opening up at 6pm with bacon sarnies and a beer and will hopefully get a bit of a crowd going and watch the match at 7pm.”

He added: “There’s lots of people who have been coming in who would’ve been watching it on their own.”

The game finished in a 2-1 defeat for England which ended the country's World Cup dreams for another four years.
