Singer Helen Shapiro appears at Norwich music night

Helen Shapiro, the ‘sixties pop singer sensation in the UK, appeared with the Hebron gospel music trio in Norwich on Tuesday May 22 at the Mercure Hotel, on Boundary Road, NR3 2BA.

All were welcome to this evening of Gospel music with a distinctly Jewish flavour. Helen Shapiro, along with Chrissy Rodgers and Simon Elman, will present their songs in a variety of styles, including Folk, Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass and Hebraic.

With their close vocal harmonies and acoustic instruments (bass, guitars, ukuleles and banjo), Hebron’s music has broad appeal.

Simon was raised in a religious Jewish home in North London. He became a professional musician and in 1979, after hearing the Gospel on the radio for the first time, he gave his life to Christ.

Chrissy was born in Pittsburgh in the US and became a believer in 1974. Soon afterwards, she felt called to full-time service with a special regard for Jewish people.

Helen, whose hit songs ‘Don’t Treat Me Like a Child’, ‘You Don’t Know’ and ‘Walking Back To Happiness’ sent her soaring into the charts at the age of 14, was raised in a traditional Jewish home.

After searching the Scriptures and studying the Messianic prophecies, Helen “discovered their fulfilment in Jesus, the Jewish Messiah” and gave her life to Christ in 1987.

Together, Simon, Chrissy and Helen felt led to form the Hebron trio, named after the Hebrew word for 'fellowship' and 'friendship'.

“We are delighted to have Hebron with us this month, as this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the re-birth of the State of Israel, ” says Dr Barrie Lawrence, president of the Full Gospel Fellowship in Norwich, which has arranged the music night on May 22.  All are welcome to regular FGB events at the Mercure Hotel, located opposite the Asda retail complex.
