Training at Norwich Centre for Christian Learning
There are new opportunities coming up at Norwich Centre for Christian Learning (NCCL), with teaching sessions on ethics, Luther and Lectio Divina amongst others.
NCCL offers courses exploring aspects of faith including biblical studies, spirituality, church history and doctrine. Their ethos is ecumenical: they welcome all from any faith or with no faith but a lively interest. Sessions are held in Norwich Cathedral Library from 10am – 12.30pm and cost £10 per session.
Ethics - 23 September
An introductory session on ethics covering areas such as: what is ethics?, key figures in the development of moral theology, the Christian values of tradition, scripture and reason, the use of the Bible in ethics.
Tutor: The Revd Canon Bob Baker
Old Lamps for New - 30 September
The New Testament has seventy direct citations from 49 psalm verses; but did the Psalmists intend the meanings that the later writers drew from them? Here we will explore the psalmists' intentions and the way that they were interpreted by apostles and Jesus himself.
Tutor: the Revd Phil Charlesworth
Faith or Reality? - 21 October
Is the life of faith now condemned to be always playing catch-up with the life and morality of contemporary society, painted into an ever-smaller corner in a public square delineated by an ever growing confidence in the amazing advances in the sciences, in technology and perhaps most importantly, in medical treatments? Or is all of nature underpinned by the God who in love created it? This lecture seeks for a dialogue between Christian faith and our common experience of the world to explore God's handiwork in all of creation.
Tutor: Revd Dr Tim Weatherstone
Old Testament prophecy - Isaiah - 25 November
We shall be looking at the work of the two/three prophets who contributed to this book and encourage those attending to discuss the importance of these oracles for the Gospel writers and for us today.
Tutor: the Revd Robin Myerscough
Sacred Reading: An Introduction To Lectio Divina - 18 November
The session will focus on the history of this ancient art of divine reading the Benedictine tradition leading to its application in a modern life of faith. There will be opportunities to discuss different ways of approaching Lectio Divina and ways of overcoming difficulties in its practice.
Tutor: Dr Diana Banks-Conney
