King’s Care – King’s Community Church

Each week King’s Community Church in central Norwich hosts a Sunday lunch from 2pm – 4pm giving who whose are sleeping rough or have other needs a place of friendship and practical help with laundry facilities and showers available.

Norfolk feeds 5000logo243The King’s Care project began in the year 2000. King's Community Church wanted to be very practical in providing food, clothes, laundry facilities and showers to people who did not have ready access to these things. Consultation with other services in the city indicated a gap in provision on Sundays and so this became the focus for the work.

Ralf and Linda Bowes who lead King’s Care said: “We very much see King's Care as part of the hospitality of the church. The guests who come include whose who are homeless, others are sofa surfing, some are elderly and come for company, some struggle with addiction and other challenges.

“More than anything else we believe that God loves people and hospitality is all about loving those we don't know with warmth and generosity. It has been great to get to know those who come along over the years.”

Around 60 people attend each week and there is often a queue to get in. The project is staffed by volunteers who cook, provide food and chat to guests.  There is also the opportunity to go to God Story where guests are invited to hear about God's goodness and love for them.
