Bishop of Norwich to bless new facilities at church
The Bishop of Norwich will be visiting Christ Church, Eaton, on Sunday November 6 to preach and to bless a new welcome area, kitchen facilities and toilet.
The welcome area, which was finished this spring, is the result of years of planning and fundraising. It includes a fully accessible WC and new kitchen facilities.
Patrick Richmond, vicar of Christ Church, said: “Since the new welcome area was completed, we’ve been very encouraged by people saying how well it fits its surroundings and it has allowed us to provide hospitality, not only for church services and meetings but also for the toddler group and children’s activities that take place in church. Also for planned meetings about refugees and dementia, for displays and school services and visits and for fund raising events for our next project, rapidly approaching completion, the restoration and upgrade of our organ. It’s fitting that Bishop Graham should bless something proving such a huge boon to our hospitality and welcome. We hope that it can be used even more in the future and will strengthen our links with the local community.”
Jessica Pitt, Tots' Teatime Church leader, said: “Tots' Teatime Church welcomes families with children under five. We love the space in the south aisle as we use it for craft activities and tea and cakes - two important aspects of Tots’ Teatime Church. The new kitchen provides a welcoming space for the families and the team to meet together before and after the service. It’s great to be able to make tea so easily, no boiling kettles any longer and washing-up is easy now with the dishwasher so we have more time to focus on talking to each other.”
Mike Brookes, project manager, said: "The support and commitment to the project has been most rewarding throughout the whole of the design and construction process."
This special service will take place on Sunday November 6 at Christ Church, Church Avenue, Norwich NR2 2AQ at 10am and will be followed by sparkling refreshments.
