£4m boost for Catholic Shrine at Walsingham

The Catholic National Shrine at Walsingham in North Norfolk has received a major boost towards its building development fund with the announcement of a £4 million donation.

Shrine Rector, Mgr John Armitage (pictured above), made the announcement on Monday of the significant donation towards its £6 million appeal to upgrade pilgrim accommodation and build new accommodation for the disabled, a retreat centre and a wet weather cloister.
Speaking on Walsingham Catholic TV, Mgr Armitage said: “In a very short period of time great things can happen. When I left on December 28 for my holidays I did not expect when I came back I would bring £4 million towards the building fund.
“We have been greatly blessed that a donor has given to the building fund this remarkable sum of money. So let’s give thanks for the great generosity of this particular donor.
“It is a great blessing on the shrine.  Please pray for the donor who is very sick at the moment,” Mgr Armitage said.
“So we now have £1.6m to raise over the next year, which is much easier to say that £6m”.
