Norfolk Christian youth bus builds relationships
A dynamic Christian youth project is empowering young people in North Norfolk with self confidence and motivation by inviting them to come on board a big red bus.
E P Youth is undergoing rebranding with expansion and new projects planned for the future – an exciting time to join them as a volunteer!
The EP Youth
bus is a familiar sight around Fakenham
and the surrounding villages in North Norfolk
. The bus provides young people with the opportunity to access support for any issues they may be facing, and pick up information on a variety of topics including sexual health, smoking, personal safety, drugs and alcohol and healthy eating.
Although trained volunteers and qualified staff are on hand to assist, the sessions are often led by the young people themselves.
As part of the charity’s projects, the bus is parked in the secondary school in order to offer an informal drop in support service after school. This is known as “Chatterbus”.
EP Youth also runs several other projects:
The EP Youth team bring the Big Red Bus to Fakenham town centre every Friday night as a chance to talk in a safe environment with hot and cold refreshments - and a custard cream or two!
The project has been extended to various rural villages around Fakenham, offering vital support to young people living in very isolated areas as well as improving the quality of life for socially excluding children and young people by allowing them to participate in fun games, face painting and arts and crafts.
My View: Photography project
EP Youth has developed “My View”, a practical skills-based programme that lasts for 6 weeks and ending with an exhibition. It gives young people the opportunity to explore issues and express feelings about topics that are relevant to them through the medium of photography.
The course focuses on a different topic each week including: - Self Image, Relationships, Bullying, Money, Drugs/Alcohol, and Education with fun and challenging practical assignments to complete both during and between the sessions.
Me Time is an opportunity for young women aged 11-19 to express themselves through creativity as well as relax and explore women’s health issues. The sessions are set in a relaxing environment, allowing individuals time and space to create beautiful objects while sharing life-skills, learning relaxation techniques, and improving their self esteem and confidence in a safe and positive environment.
The young people involved with the craft group have formed new friendships with each other and have brought their friends to the group. The craft group have attended community events to sell their product which has raised a small amount of money. With the addition of health education and relaxation work, this is a great opportunity for young women to develop and learn about themselves.
