Norwich Christian drop-in centre pioneer retires

TrevorScott2010: Trevor Scott, the man credited with bringing a Norwich Christian drop-in centre into the 21st century has just retired after 16 years.

During his years as administrator of The All Saints Centre, Trevor was involved both ‘Front of House' and behind the scenes, in latter years concentrating solely on the many tasks involved in the charity’s administration. In spite of being entitled to retire earlier, he chose to continue on short term contracts but has now decided to call it a day and will have more time to spend on his other interests.

Over the years, Trevor has brought the Centre firmly into the 21st century, setting up a computer system, creating a website, making links with the wider community, creating art work and designs for publicity, building and maintaining a database of Friends, dealing with finances, creating annual reports and assisting with events, not forgetting those occasions when, tool box in hand, he could be seen doing many of those ‘little jobs about the house’ that always crop up.

He has also been a sincere supporter of The Centre’s core aims and values and has prepared presentations and given talks, as well as doing all sorts of extras in his own time at home.

Trevor’s wife Gill has also been a great supporter of and asset to the Centre, being a valued member of the team of volunteers who ensure that the place can function properly. Amongst its wide range of facilities, All Saints’ has a lending library of Christian books and Gill has been its librarian as well as being an active supporter of fund raising events.

In view of the Centre’s annual rent increases, reported on earlier in the year, the Trustees will not be replacing Trevor and are currently setting up new structures to support the Centre in the field of administration. Administrative support is to be ‘bought in’ from Voluntary Norfolk to help in the field of finance, while other members of staff, volunteers and some of the Trustees will be taking on various other duties to help fill the gaps.

The Trustees will be monitoring the situation over the next few months to see where any extra help may be required but meanwhile are actively searching for a Secretary to the Trustees to attend about six meetings in the Centre per year.
