Norfolk homelessness charity hosts Terry Waite evening
Local homelessness charity Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney is inviting people to join them on July 28 for an evening with Terry Waite CBE, President of Emmaus UK.
The event will be held in the former convent buildings on Belsey Bridge Road. Guests will hear Terry share a selection of extracts from his new book, ‘Out of the Silence’. The book includes a moving sequence of poems and reflections that recall the highs and lows of his life, both during his ordeal being held captive in Beirut, and throughout the happier years of his humanitarian work that has followed. Guests will also hear Emmaus companions telling their own personal stories, along with the Sisters of All Hallows.
The event has been made possible through the gifting of a legacy by Jill Hobday, who was a great supporter and generous benefactor of Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney.
Cathy Hembry, General Manager at Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Terry Waite to our community. His experience of captivity has given him a real insight into the isolation, fear and loneliness that many homeless people go through when they are experiencing homelessness. The evening also presents a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the life of Jill Hobday who was a great supporter of the work we do.”
Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney currently supports 20 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and meaningful work at the community in Ditchingham.
The evening with Terry Waite CBE will take place on Friday 28 July at 19:30 at Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney, Belsey Bridge, Ditchingham, NR35 2DT. Tickets for the event cost £20 and include a buffet supper and signed copy of the ‘Out of the Silence’ book.
