Bishop's House Garden deadline for Norfolk charities

Every summer the Bishop of Norwich and his wife open their garden for the use of local charities, this year raising over £27,000. The deadline for applications for 2017 events is Friday, September 30.

Each year Bishop Graham and Mrs Julie James offer the stunning gardens of Bishop’s House in the centre of Norwich to various local charities as a venue for fundraising. They are delighted to announce that this summer over £27,000 has been raised for charities such as the Norwich Foodbank, the Matthew Project, ENYP, Cruse Bereavement Care and many others.

The Bishop's House Gardens are set in the heart of the city and are always a wonderful surprise. The garden has many hidden delights for visitors such as the large traditional herbaceous borders, a woodland walk, boxed rose beds and a long shaded border with hostas.

There is also a large wild grass labyrinth and extensive shrubberies containing many rare and unusual plants, among these being a hebe planted from a sprig taken from Queen Victoria’s wedding bouquet in 1840.

There is an organic kitchen garden, a bamboo walk, and a very popular plant sales area. The ‘jungle walk’, which was new this year, was created by Head Gardener Simon Gaches also proved a big hit with visitors.

The deadline for applications for 2017 is Friday, September 30. If you are involved with a charity and would like to be considered for one of the available Sundays, please email the Bishop’s Chaplain at bishops.chaplain@dioceseofnorwich.org as soon as possible with a full letter of application.
