Latest Norfolk Christian community events

Events of interest to the Norwich and Norfolk Christian community happening over the next few weeks are listed.

Sun 7 Apr 2:00pm
The Annual General Meeting of Norwich Interfaith Link will take place on Sunday April 7th at the Quaker Meeting House in Goat Lane, Norwich, doors open at 2pm, AGM 2.30pm.

Opening Speech by one of our members: Fazlun Khalid.
We are grateful that he is willing during Ramadan to explain his involvement in Eco-Islam, and to identify where different faiths can unite in linking belief and actions in a common cause.

The business of the AGM will follow with a short review of the past year, financial accounts, and Election of officers. Discussion then will be invited on future plans.

Refreshments will be available from 2pm in the corridor and at the end of the meeting but cannot be carried into the Hall.

We hope this will be a chance to not only meet each other but to consolidate our mutual support for the vital role of Interfaith bringing communities together in these trying times.

It would be more than appreciated if you come. Please let us know in advance for numbers.

Angles Way Filling Station
April Meeting with Kevin Roberts

Kevin was the Director of ReSource from April 2016 until his retirement in September 2021. He is still passionate about a ministry that is very close to his heart and is continuing in an active role as a ReSource Minister and Alongside Companion.

He is also learning some new rhythms of life in retirement and exploring what ministry will look like in this new season, with a fresh balance of taking in, giving out and being more available to Anne and his family. Kevin and Anne live in Shrewsbury and have three grown up children and six grandchildren, currently living in Thailand and the UK.

Kevin is Chair of the SOMA UK Trustees (ReSource’s overseas partner), the Simeons Trustee for the West Midlands and a speaker for The Filling Station. Kevin came to faith in Christ while studying history at Queens' College, Cambridge, where he also received his call to ordained ministry in the Church of England. He trained at St John's Nottingham and did his BA in Theology at the University of Nottingham before doing a Curacy at Beverley Minster.

Subsequent ministry took Kevin to Reading as Curate in Charge of St James', Woodley; then to Shrewsbury for eighteen years as Vicar of Meole Brace (for ten of which he was the Rural Dean of Shrewsbury, and for most of those years a Prebendary of Lichfield Cathedral); and then to Cumbria for seven years where he was Archdeacon of Carlisle and a Residentiary Canon of Carlisle Cathedral. In Carlisle Kevin was also the Deliverance Advisor for the Diocese and Chair of the Carlisle Diocesan Board of Education with responsibility for diocesan work with children and young people in the County, as well as leading the development of an internship programme and a fresh expression of church for young people, networked across Cumbria.

He led regular retreats at Rydal Hall. Kevin speaks of ministry as “an exhilarating ministry-ride”, and his heart remains firmly in local church leadership and a longing to see churches engaging with the Word and the Spirit.

Sat 13 Apr 7:30pm

The Norwich Gilbert and Sullivan Society will present a “Come and Sing” semi-costumed concert version of ‘RUDDIGORE or The Witch’s Curse’ at St. Cuthbert’s Church on Saturday 13 April at 7.30pm.

Admission is free and refreshments will be available in the interval.

The cast includes Thomas Monument, Andrew Inglis, Andy Weston, John Barnett, Tim Hurst-Brown, Rachel Goodchild, Genevieve Plunkett, Janet Theobald and Victoria Monument. Beverley McInnes is Musical Director, Andy Weston is Producer, and members of the public are invited to join the supporting chorus.

RUDDIGORE was premiered at the Savoy Theatre, London in January 1887, where it ran for 288 performances. The show then toured the provinces for the rest of that year. Thereafter, it was not professionally revived until the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company staged it in 1920, when it took on a new lease of life and proved very popular. The D’Oyly Carte continued to perform the opera right up until the company closed in 1982. When the D’Oyly Carte visited the Theatre Royal, Norwich for the last time in May 1981, RUDDIGORE was in the repertoire.

RUDDIGORE has been performed on five different occasions by the East Norfolk Operatic Society. The company was to have staged the show in 2021 but had to abandon the project due to lockdown. Gilbert and Sullivan enthusiasts now have a great opportunity to hear Sir Arthur Sullivan’s lively music coupled with W. S. Gilbert’s biting wit in this concert version of RUDDIGORE.

Don’t miss it!
