Doorway Women’s Service - The Magdalene Group 

For women and young people who experience sexual exploitation in Norfolk, The Magdalene Group provides a lifeline.  Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunchtime they host a drop-in with a hot meal at their homely King Street premises in central Norwich. 

Norfolk feeds 5000logo243The Magdalene Group's Doorway Women’s Services supports women working in sex work, prostitution and the adult industry in Norfolk in a range of ways. Through drop-in sessions, befriending and outreach the charity aims to develop relationships with women, providing friendship, assurance, acceptance and support.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunchtime The Magdalene Group hosts a drop-in at their homely King Street premises in central Norwich. The team, which includes paid staff and volunteers, provide a hot meal and any other support the women may need such as help with housing, form filling, access to a computer or signposting to other support services.

Suzi Heybourne, the CEO of The Magdalene Group said: “Our drop-in offers a safe and positive place with the opportunity to share a hot lunch, experience a rare sense of belonging, access a listening ear, support and friendship.”

One woman who accessed the service said: “You’re there for me when no one else is.  You’re like the family I never had”.

The Magdalene Group also provides a confidential helpline offering support to sex workers and the team go to the red light area of Norwich to meet with the street based sex workers, offering on-the-spot help, harm reduction advice, information on services, condoms and a hot drink.
