Youth Alpha course set to launch in Norwich cafe

A Youth Alpha course is being launched by Norwich YFC in the city centre next week, the first it has run for a number of years.

Starting on Thursday April 27, the eight-week course will be run in the city centre in CherryLeaf Coffee Shop on St Giles Street. It is part of a number of Youth Alpha courses that Norwich YFC are helping to deliver in partnerships with local churches.

Director Nick Blanch said: “This is a great resource for churches to bring young people to especially if they don’t feel they have enough to run a youth alpha on their own or are not familiar with how the course runs. By bringing different groups together and providing confident staff, we will be able to run the course together and empower churches to run more in the future without us.”

Emmi, one of the youth workers involved, said: “I am so excited to be involved in running a Youth Alpha in the city. Bringing different churches and youth groups together to create a sense of community, and one church.

“Any young person who wants to explore a little bit more about Christianity as a faith is so welcome, and I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know lots of different youth leaders and young people over the eight weeks.”

As part of her role, Emmi is also working in partnership with Hope Wymondham Church to help deliver a course there.

Youth worker Matt Morton said: “Having gone through Youth Alpha as a young person ten years ago, but not having been directly involved in running it, I recently decided to run it with my youth group as a way of solidifying their foundations and creating an opportunity for large numbers of their friends to get saved.

“Working with NYFC to run our Alpha course gives our youth group access to a wealth of practical experience and resources that we lack and means I've felt confident in impressing upon our young people that this will be an excellent series that they can bring their friends to."

The course, which runs from 7.30 to 9pm, is completely free, and discounts will be offered to young people to buy drinks in the coffee shop. If you would like to find out more details about how to attend or donate towards NYFC, please email office@norwichyfc.co.uk or go to their website www.norwichyfc.co.uk
