Wymondham church moves from home of 8 years

After eight years of meeting in Wymondham High School, Hope Community Church held its last service there on Sunday, December 11 and the church are now looking forward to moving into their newly developed community and worship centre on December 18.

Following their last Sunday service at Wymondham High School, Hope Community Church are excited to be moving to their new community and worship centre on Ayton Road, Wymondham on Sunday, December 18.  They will celebrate the move with an outdoor carol service at 4pm which will include the official opening of the new 200 seater Hub auditorium.

Grantley Watkins, Leader of Hope Community Church said: "We are very much looking forward to the opening of Phase 2 of our three phase development of this large Ayton Road site.  This community resource will greatly enhance the wellbeing of Wymondham and meet many of the needs of our community"

The auditorium space and community rooms, which cost £700k, will be used by Hope Community Church and the Hub Community Project to house their growing number of members and activities as well as being available for hire by local community organisations.

The Hub Community Project will continue to run activities there including:

  • Hoppers Toddler Groups
  • The Space youth drop-in
  • The Zone support for families
  • ESOL English lessons for those with English as a second language
  • Cup of Caring support group for carers and their cared for.

The continued growth of Hope Community Church and its community work mean that the church are already looking at further development, ‘Phase 3’, which would create a 500 seat auditorium.

Hope Community Church was formed in 2008 with 70 members and has met in Wymondham High School for Sunday services since then. During this time they took on a lease for the former Job Centre in Wymondham where the Hub Community Project was developed.

In 2014 the church took on a long term lease of industrial premises in Ayton Road which had previously been the vehicle servicing centre for May Gurney.

The first phase of the development, finished in June 2015, provided space for church offices and the work of the Hub Community Project charity.

Phase 2 of the development has seen the conversion of the former vehicle workshop into a 200 seater auditorium for large meetings and church services, with a mezzanine gallery and community room which will be used mainly but not exclusively for youth activities.

The total project cost has been approximately £840k (£140k on Phase 1 and £700k on Phase 2). 75% of this was raised by the generous giving of the church members.
