Wells advent sleepout 600CF

Wells sleep-out for Church Urban Fund

The churches in Wells-next-the-Sea are taking on the Church Urban Fund’s challenge of sleeping out one night during Advent, and they are seeking sponsors. Tony Rothe reports.

The sleepout is a national initiative launched by the Church Urban Fund to raise money for some of their projects, through local sponsorship, and raise awareness about homelessness and the work that is already happening to make a difference for those without a roof over their heads.

The Wells-next-the-Sea event will take place on Saturday December 10 on The Buttlands, in Wells.

Organiser Alison Bowles says “There’ll be about 6 people taking part, and possibly a token dog too! We’ll start off about 9.00pm gathering around a fire-log for warmth and a short meditation and Taize songs, then snuggle down under canvas for the night.

“I'm inspired by the work of Church Urban Fund and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in Advent Sleepout Challenge 2016. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can.”

The Church Urban Fund is working to transform lives and transform society. They want all people and communities to flourish. They support local churches to bring about change in poor communities by coming alongside those who lack hope or self-belief, to encourage, enable and equip them to take control of their lives. They are an agency of the Church, working in England locally through our Together Network.
