Sheringham church celebrates football success

A Presentation Evening was held at the Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham to celebrate a very successful football season for the Lighthouse teams. Elaine Fisher reports.

 
The church has seven teams in the Norfolk Christian Football League from Under 10’s to adults and new players are welcome to join the teams which play on Saturday mornings, with a training night every Thursday.
 
 
Club Manager Paul Smith said it had been the best season ever for the club, and he was particularly pleased that Lighthouse teams won the ‘Fair Play’ awards which were voted by the opposition team managers.
 
League trophies were presented to 

  • League Winners in the Under 12 competition (winning 11 out of 12 matches)
  • Cup and Plate Runners-up Trophies were presented to Lighthouse Under 10 team
  • Cup Winners Lighthouse Under 12 team
  • Under 10 and Under 12 teams won Five a Side runners up medals 

 
Next Season the Under 14 Team Kit would be sponsored by Sheringham Architects Stead Mutton Griggs, and the proposed kit was displayed.  Ian Mutton from the sponsoring architects thanked the players and the managers for all their hard work during the season, and was looking forward to next season.
 
Youth Pastor Peter Skivington presented a short film and a sporting quiz.  There was a break for refreshments and an opportunity for players to sign on for next season, as forms must be with the League by the end of August.  The first training session for the season will be on Thursday September 3 on the school field.
 
 
Lighthouse Medals were awarded to Under 10’s, Under 12’s, Under 14’s Under 16’s (two teams) and adults.  Manager’s awards were presented to individual players.

Team Managers went on to award the ‘Most Improved Player’ and ‘Player of the Season’ medals.  Trophy presentations were made by Ian Kidger on behalf of the Lighthouse Management Team.
