Norfolk pilgrimage heads for the Holy Land
An ecumenical study pilgrimage from Norfolk to the Holy Land is being planned for March 2011 and is open to people who may want to join the trip.
The trip will be led by Jack Lawson who has a PhD in Hebrew Bible and the ancient Near East and is currently responsible for the continuing training of Methodist ministers in the District. Jack has visited, led groups and studied in the Middle East on numerous occasions.
Richard Capper, the Canon Pastor at Norwich Cathedral, will be the joint leader acting as chaplain to the group and providing services and appropriate moments of reflection in particular locations.
The trip is scheduled to last 14 days (inclusive of travel to and from Israel), which will provide time to see ancient sites as well as absorb the modern culture. Travel will be in both Israeli and Palestinian areas from as far north as Banias (Caesarea Philippi) and as far south as Masada and Hebron. There will also be some days in Jerusalem.
The trip is aimed at lay and ordained people and particularly those who have never been to Israel (but not excluding those who wish to go again!). The group will be limited to 40. Please note: Those interested in going must be able to walk unaided at least three miles per day on uneven terrain. This will be a very active tour.
Prices are being worked out at present, with the caveat that air fares are always subject to change, and the hope is that the price will be in the region of £1200. It has been agreed that clergy who have personal allowances for CME may offset some of the cost by using this allowance. They should however check with Cathy Nicholls at the Norwich Diocese how much personal allowance they have.
If you are interested in finding out further information there will be two opportunities to meet with the organizers to learn more about the trip - Wednesday 24 February at 7. 30pm or Saturday 13 March at 11 am. Both meetings will be held in the Community Room in the Hostry at the Cathedral.
This will be an exciting opportunity to renew and refresh your understanding of biblical sites and to gain deeper insights into our faith.
