Christians fight back against atheist attacks
History expert Professor John Coffey challenges the new atheist movement and highlights the contribution Christianity has made throughout history at two Passion for Life events at a Norwich church.
Evening Seminar, Saturday 27 February 7.30-9.00 pm at Surrey Chapel: ‘Does Religion Poison Everything?’
The ‘new atheist’ movement claims that religion is a malign force in human history. It suggests that the Christian Church in particular has been a repressive and obscurantist institution responsible for silencing scientists, fomenting wars and persecuting dissent. Professor Coffey will challenge the one-sided historical arguments of the new atheists, and highlight some of the constructive contributions Christianity has made to our culture.
Morning Service, Sunday 28 February 10:15 at Surrey Chapel: ‘The Dark Side of Church History’
This talk will reflect on the flawed character of the people of God, something that is not covered up in the Bible. Using both biblical and historical examples, we will be encouraged to think about how God works through sinful people to bring about redemption.
