Street Pastors work continues despite storm

AntiguaFloodingDespite a tropical storm and extensive flooding across the island, Norwich couple Paula and Martin Callam have been busy working to re-establish the Antigua and Barbuda Street Pastor Initiative. Paula reports.

We are continuing to go out with the teams each Friday night. We have now been out with each of the four teams though we have not yet met all of the Street Pastors since not everybody in each team has come out.

One Friday there was no team out as the previous day there had been a tropical storm (the edge of hurricane Omar) which had caused heavy rain and flooding (pictured right) and it was still raining. We were not affected; our house is on a hill.

AntiguaCallamHomeWebWe attended a general Street Pastors monthly meeting and met some more Street Pastors, this was very good and we were able to distribute a monthly magazine that we are now producing.

We have been able to make contact with a number of outside agencies that we will be working with, in particular a drug rehabilitation unit called Crossroads. A homeless young man called Vanlyn has been visiting the office, he has a drug dependency and had been to Crossroads before but had fallen back into drug abuse but he wants to change and he has been accepted for readmission to Crossroads (this is his last chance). However, he said that before going in for treatment he knew that he had to accept Christ in his life and this he has done. He has been given a bible.

On a personal note we now have visas for a year and also now have a home phone, however we still do not have a local bank account and have a problem with our laptop which is delaying getting the internet at home.
